15psi...Miata performance
Overview
I bought my first
Miata to replace a 300Z. I was out of town, when the seller finally found the title,
so my wife picked the car up for me. When I returned from my trip, I found that
the car was no longer mine! My wife confiscated it. So I was forced to purchase
the Miata that was #2 on my short list of candidates.
In all, I have
purchased 4 Miatas. Here is a brief history:

'92 White. All stock.
Luckily, we never had the 'white paint problem'. We sold it to a couple,
who were going to use it to escape from their children.
'90 Red. Canadian car
that only had 25k after 10 years. It looked & felt brand new. Previous
owners added: JR MFM, JR CAI, JR headers, JR catback, 15x7 BBS(like) wheels,
RE71 205/50/15 tires. Plus a hardtop. I was in heaven. Within 6 months I was
installing a Greddy turbo. Then a IC, Torsen, tan interior/top, Link...
This is now my wife's main drive.
'90 Red.
I picked this one up
in Dallas. Previous owner didn't watch the oil level. I flat bedded it
back, and that adventure could take a page to describe. 83 gallons of gas later,
I was home, and it was snowing. I swapped a $200 engine in to it, cleaned it up, and
then sold it. For about 48 hours I seriously considered doing a V8 swap, but my
sanity returned. Check
this out to see why why blown engine would not turn & the swap.
'91 Silver/Merlot.
This one I found in Tampa. Previous owner basically bought the
entire FM catalog and
installed it in this car. He added a complete drive train from a '95,
unbelievable stereo, it goes on and on. Then he lost interest. ( I think when he
figured how much more it would cost to do the body work, install the Racing Beat
Type II kit and then paint it, so he decided to let it go) The trip home was pretty
uneventful. It just looked funny...faded silver Miata, with a bright Red hardtop.
And there was a spare trans sitting in the passenger seat. And as I packed the
car up, I considered strapping the RB kit to the car. Sanity returned again and it
was sent by truck instead.
